Now this is actually quite an efficient and effective way of going through life because the alternative would be continually questioning and evaluating everything you do.
So the subconscious mind is largely responsible for your actions with very little input from the conscious mind and in many instances this is a good thing as in the case of hotplates and driving.
However, often times your subconscious mind reacts on incorrect data programmed from when you were a baby.
You see, when you were small your subconscious simply accepted what it was told because your critical conscious mind was not sufficiently developed to reject what was not true so it simply accepted everything that was fed into it.
What this means is that you have beliefs which are simply not congruent with what you want to create in your life.
So, for example,
Now, it can be even more insidious because you may not be consciously aware of your unhelpful beliefs that constantly sabotage your efforts to create a better life for yourself. And the fact of the matter is that it's just not possible for you to act against your beliefs. That's why it's impossible for even the best hypnotist to hypnotize everyone to anything they want.
Now, this is good news for you because it's surprisingly easy to change your beliefs.
First we must engage the conscious mind so that it starts sending helpful data down to the subconscious mind. And we can do this with a free but powerful tool called an affirmation, so what is an affirmation?
What Is An Affirmation?
An affirmation is a short positive statement that you keep repeating to yourself (quietly or out loud) until that statement is programmed into your subconscious mind forming a new belief.
Your affirmations should be positive, reflect what YOU want to be true for your own life and stated in the present tense.
An example of a good affirmation is "I am successful." It's positive and stated as though it's already true.
"I will be successful." is not so good because the word will implies you're not successful yet and you can continue with your whole life not being successful yet.
"I am not a failure." is also an ineffective affirmation because the focus is on what you don't want.
I could also answer "what is an affirmation?" by saying that an affirmation can become a self fulfilling prophecy.
So, for instance, the behaviour of a person who believes they are successful will be be totally different to the person who believes they are a failure. And furthermore, their behaviours will also have the effect of proving that their beliefs are, in fact, the absolute truth making beliefs self fulfilling prophecies which means that it is critical for us to have beliefs that serve to help us live a life of abundance.
Affirmations are a free and effective tool to help change your beliefs to ones that are helpful. Unfortunately, they can also help you create beliefs that are unhelpful to you so it's important when you create an affirmation remember to have this question "what is an affirmation?" on your mind so that you word them effectively remembering they will become a self fulfilling prophecy.
