You must have persuasion skills so that others buy into your dreams and goals simply because you are not an island and will not achieve all you are capable of achieving without the help and support of others.

Persuasion is the art of inspiring others to help you and be glad they did.

It is not nagging, whining, threatening or in any other way forcing the compliance of another person against their will. These tactics will not work, or if they do, only for a short time.

  • don't manipulate. People will eventually feel they've been tricked and will walk away.

6 Tips On How To Persuade

  1. Show you like them.

    People tend to like people who like them. When you show that you are genuinely like someone they are far more likely to comply with requests you make of them.

  2. Find out what you have in common with them.

    Pointing our similarities creates rapport and therefore an increased chance of compliance.

  3. Give more than you'll get.

    People don't like to feel they've been taken advantage of so be willing to give something of value to them in return.

  4. Be certain.

    People don't respond to wishy washy. Make it clear what you want and explain the benefits to them with certainty.

  5. Create scarcity.

    Particularly useful when selling something. Indicate only a certain number will ever be sold, offer a discount for the first 100, give bonuses if they purchase before a certain date. Whatever scarcity tactic you use make sure it's genuine or you'll be laughed at if you want to use it again.

  6. Use their name regularly.

    People don't realise it, but they like it when you use their name regularly because it makes them feel important. Throw in the odd "you" and "your" regularly too.

  7. Use the word "because".

    Whenever explaining why someone should do something or why you are doing something precede the explanation with the word "because".

Use Persuasion To Get Others To Support Your Dreams

You may be wondering why people should buy into your dreams. After all, shouldn't they be heading in the direction of their dreams?

Of course they should! The really good thing is that not everyone has the same dreams..... Perhaps someone's dreams are coming to fruition by helping you.

For instance, perhaps you want to lose weight but need a personal trainer to help you do it. Your dream is to lose weight and the personal trainer could have a dream of eliminating type 2 diabetes. The car salesman may dream of sending his kids to private school while your dream may be to own a Porsche. The whole idea with persuasion is to win/win.

I know some of you may think that using persuasion is somehow immoral. Persuasion is only a tool to arrive at a win/win situation (meaning a happy life, or at the least a happy outcome for all parties involved) but, unfortunately, it can be used by evil people on the disaffected for evil purposes. Much like an axe is a tool....
